What is a Surgical Technologist?

A surgical technologist is a member of the surgical team who works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and registered nurses to ensure that surgeries are performed smoothly and safely. Surgical technologists typically have an associate's degree or certification from an accredited surgical technology program. They must also pass a national certification exam.

Surgical technologists play a vital role in the OR by preparing the operating room for surgery, sterile draping of the patient, passing instruments to the surgeon, and counting sponges and needles. They also monitor the well-being of the patient during surgery and may assist in transporting the patient to the recovery room. In some cases, surgical technologists may also scrub in for surgeries.
